Hotels for Wine Lovers offer everything oenphiles need

Today’s wine lovers want more than a well stocked minibar when they travel and more than a few are catering to this discerning market segment. Whether they offer a wine bar or 24/7 wine service, hotels prove that oenophiles don’t have to make a trip to wine country regions to taste excellent wines. Travelers today have a plethora of choice when it comes to hotels and destinations. Here are seven to consider for future visits.

Bushmans Kloof in South Africa, the owners at Relais & Châteaux member, Bushmans Kloof have finally come up with a way to offer guests a deeper way to experience the region’s famous viticulture. As part of a newly launched Wilderness Wine Tour, guests are whisked up into the Cederberg Mountains (a chauffeur does the driving so you can soak up the scenery) for a private tasting in the vineyard, which is known for its semi-sweet Bukettraube and dry reds like a merlot-shiraz blend and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Four Seasons George V Paris’ most exclusive hotel became a little more interesting to oenophiles this year, when its 86 year old wine cellar located 14 meters below lobby level opened up for monthly wine tastings. Part of the brand’s "Extraordinary Experiences" campaign, guests simply sign up at the concierge desk, and head downstairs for a tour through a selection of the cellar's 50,000 bottles by Le Cinq director Eric Beaumard.

Auberge du Vin Argentina this new 29 room boutique hotel located in the heart of Valle de Uco, one of South America’s most prominent wine regions, is making waves ahead of its grand opening this October. Formerly a members only area, the surrounding Tupungato Winelands are finally ripe for public consumption. A walk around the Malbec and Pinot vineyards, which are tended by local farmers. Take a siesta on your private terrace, where wild grapes dangle on the vine, and later, sample the vineyard’s own wines at Epic, the hotel restaurant.

Mont Rochelle Franschhoek, South Africa, this vineyard town, just an hour’s drive from Cape Town, dates back to the 17th century. But a new 22 room boutique hotel, complete with a hammam and two restaurants, is keeping this corner of the Cape more relevant to wine connoisseurs than ever. Cellar tours and wine tastings are offered daily, but we suggest exploring the property’s 37 hectare vineyard on foot. What better way to see mouvedre, viognier and newly grafted semillon vines up close ?

Llanerch Vineyard Hensol, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales Former geologist Ryan Davies took over Llanerch Vineyard in 2010, and has since transformed the 10 acre space and accompanying farmhouse into southern Wales’s most sought-after foodie haven, complete with a cooking school. This summer, the hotel expands once more with the opening of Cariad Restaurant, a light-filled, vineyard-facing dining room where Welsh Black dry aged ribeye and Duffryn Bach lamb rump are served alongside the vineyard’s signature Cariad brand. The sparkling blush is the winner here; and really, when was the last time you tasted a home-grown Welsh Brut ?
